Kazakhstan was the last country to gain independence from the USSR before the dissolution of the Soviet Union at the end of December 1991.

Because of the failed coup d’état that occurred in August 1991, they adopted the Constitutional Independence Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan on December 16th, and the country became independent.
